I work as a Five Element acupuncturist in the Bay Area. For the last decade, my focus on various arts and crafts – paint, stone, and architecture – was similarly motivated by a desire to create harmony. However, it was this system of acupuncture that felt like not only an art form, but was also strongly aligned with my own purpose and understanding of the world.
While completing a degree in Chinese Medicine, a few opportunities emerged to study Five Element Acupuncture as it was taught by JR Worsley. Over the course of a couple years interning with one senior acupuncturist and a couple years of formal study with Khosrow Khalighi in the Five Element Training Program, I was exposed to an embodied knowledge conveyed through direct experience. Through this attunement to energetic imbalances, it becomes possible to more fully address the range of human experience and its challenges.
In this spirit, Five Element Acupuncture has a depth that can reach the root of our suffering. It comes to life as one of the world’s native languages, giving a unique perspective on the cycles of nature, health, and illness. By relying on the senses, we observe where the relationship of the five elements has been disrupted and how each situation asks for assistance. Thus, there are no standard prescriptions for familiar, predefined conditions, and for that reason it is applicable for helping people with a wide range of ailments. To reach the energetic root of a disease, the treatment responds to the specific circumstances of that moment. Seeing the relief and shift in consciousness that this approach can bring to patients is deeply inspiring and uplifting for me.

“Weekly sessions with Ethan helped to open a pathway into my wellness. His holistic approach to body, mind and spirit, informed by principles of Chinese energetic systems and personal life experience, is subtle yet effective. I’ve benefitted profoundly through our treatments together.” – P.G.
“In the eight months that I’ve received acupuncture from Ethan, I have experienced great improvement both physically and mentally. I was experiencing painful bouts from Crohn’s Disease and other autoimmune conditions. Ethan helps me by listening to my stressors in my life and the effects on my body.” – D.M.
